| MEDIA RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Media contact Chris Tola +61 (0) 438 203 964 PROJECT BLUE REACHES OUT TO AUSTRALIA MAJOR SURF BRANDS UNITE TO PROTECT OCEANS, WAVES AND BEACHES
In Australia, industry leaders, Reef, Electric, and Nixon, have partnered to create limited and special-edition products under the project BLUE campaign. Set to launch in August 2007, these products will be sold at leading retail stores with a portion of proceeds going towards the Surfrider Foundation to support a broad range of activities and initiatives across the globe. “Project BLUE has united the support of manufacturers, retailers and consumers in the US, aiding to protect and preserve our coastlines. We’re excited to launch project BLUE with our partners in Australia and assist in local Surfrider initiatives there." said Vipe Desai, project BLUE founder and US-based ‘Propaganda Headquarters’ President. “It’s not a charity, it’s a plan of action.” Products that will make up the project BLUE offering include Reef’s Mick Fanning sandal, Electric sunglasses and Nixon watches. Although each brand will retain category exclusivity, additional industry partners will be brought into the mix to build and strengthen the program in coming months. Event programs, media partners and additional industry support will soon be announced. Project BLUE was created in response to the decline of our global coastal waterways and beaches, and to help with their revitalisation and protection for generations to come. Research shows that a gradual decline in water quality, over-development and beach erosion along our coasts continue to fatigue a natural resource that is essential to not only our popular culture and recreation, but the health and well being of our surroundings. "Project BLUE will help to stem losses of water quality, coastal access and sand loss at beaches and surf spots around Australia by supporting our community-based campaigns, such as Save Bastion Point, conserving Ningaloo Reef, Bring Back Kirra and Stop the Gunns Pulp Mill, that are undertaken by Surfrider Foundation's network of grassroots chapters," said Chris Tola, Chair, Surfrider Foundation Australia.
